Discovery Ministries Adult Sunday School
Discovery Ministries utilizes bible-based curriculum, video series, and facilitated discussions to equip
God’s people to spread His word.
Christian education is vital in helping us grow deeper in our faith, while at the same time, protecting
our hearts against worldly influences. Come discover God’s encouraging message in one of our 17 adult
classes held 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the annex building. If you are interested in
learning which educational class is for you, please contact Kantessa Castillo at kantessa@christ-umc.org
or by contacting the church office at 690-HOPE.
Connecting Ministries Adult Small Group Experiences
The Connecting Ministries strive to provide a wide variety of special opportunities and programs where
members who share the same God given gifts and interests can meet to experience God’s love and build a
community in ministry. Each month this ministry offers a variety of classes, demonstrations and discussion
groups to bring people together. We have had home improvement demonstrations, gardening classes, and
cooking demonstrations and many well received Faith in the Face of Science lectures on topics such as stem
cell research and nuclear proliferation. See regular Christ UMC printed publications for this month’s
offerings or contact Jenny Misslin, Directory of Connecting Ministries via email jennymisslin@christ-umc.org.
Enriching Ministries Adult Bible Study Groups
Enriching Ministries provide opportunities for growth and closer relationship with God through bible
study and personal reflection.
Various studies, courses and programs are offered throughout the year for learning more about the bible,
how we connect to God, and who we are in God’s Kingdom Current studies include several Disciple Bible
Studies, women’s bible studies, and men’s bible studies. Previous class offerings have included financial
studies, marriage and relationship studies, Methodism studies, introduction to Christian beliefs, and
various other topical studies such as spiritual gifts. Possible future studies may include courses on
prayer, one’s spiritual walk with god, and a bible study focused in the archeology of the Holy Lands.

Mature Adult Ministries For those 50+
Our church has so many exciting and wonderful programs designed to meet every age and interest group. How
very thrilling to have a program with a focus on the needs of everyone over the half century mark (Note: We
didn't say over the hill!) Combining learning with travel and caring for people in our community makes
these challenging as well as enjoyable activities for everyone. Because of the involved members, this is on
of the most meaningful programs at CUMC. ETC has become another avenue to build friendships, broaden our
learning experiences, and spread God's love in our community.
ETC is the acronym for:
Education: Promoting Life Long Education through Faith Development, Lifestyle Education and
Community Resources.
Travel: Promoting Friendship & Fellowship Through Travel, Day Trips, Overnight Trips, and
Excursions.
Connection: Promoting Community Though Caring Connections, Weekly Covered Dish Meals, Monthly ETC
Night Out, and Caring Shut-In Ministry.
College Ministries
South 6 College Ministries
The College Ministries at Christ United Methodist Church strive to provide an environment where college
students can mature in their spiritual growth through worship, study, service, and fellowship with other
Christians. There are numerous opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills and use their
gifts to glorify Christ through various aspects of ministry. We firmly believe that college-age young
people can make a profound impact during this stage of their lives, and we seek to help them discover their
gifts and talents to become dynamic leaders now and in the church of the future.

Habitat for Humanity
In 2002, Christ UMC raised the roof on the first CUMC sponsored Habitat home on Beck Street in Bryan. In 2004
we erected our second home off Holleman Drive in College Station. In both cases, CUMC pooled its efforts in a
church wide project of fundraising and on-site construction to build these two homes. Our participation helps
families experience the rewards and joys of home ownership that would otherwise not be possible.
Summer Lunches at Southgate
This church-wide program is organized by the Helping Hands team. Numerous Sunday school classes and fellowship
groups help provide daily lunches to the children of the Southgate Village Apartment complex in College
Station. The goal of this program is to address the needs of students who cannot access the school lunch
program during the summer months. We also hope to build relationships and friendship with the families of
Southgate Village. (Contact Bonnie Byrum at 764-8673)
Tree of Hope
Each Advent season, CUMC reaches out to the community in numerous ways. Locally, Christmas gifts are gathered
from the congregation and distributed to families in the Brazos Valley and specifically those who are
residents in the Southgate Village Apartment Complex in College Station. Last year, CUMC was able to reach
out to more than 250 children. (Contact Bonnie Byram at 764-8673)
KAIROS Prison Ministries
The mission of Kairos is to bring Christ’s love and forgiveness to all incarcerated individuals, their
families, and those who work with them, and to assist in the transition to becoming a productive citizen. Our
ministry includes opportunities such as working on an “inside” team or “outside” team, baking cookies,
writing letters, making placemats and mentoring once a month and in prayer. (Contact Buzz & Katy Pruitt at 693-3690)
First Sunday Share
Every first Sunday of the month, CUMC members return with grocery bags received the previous week. The bags
are full of non-perishable food items, which are given to the Brazos Valley Food Bank and distributed to
pantries across the Brazos Valley area. (Contact Sonia McDowell at 690-3709)
Medical Mission Trips
Every spring, Christ UMC joins with other churches in sending a medical mission team to Guatemala. The
Medical Mission team, made up of doctors, nurses, dentists, ministers and support personnel, are focused on
offering the gifts of mercy, healing and love to those otherwise unable to afford medical attention. One
doesn’t have to be a practicing medical professional to participate in this ministry. The only prerequisite
for participating with Faith in Practice is a desire to share the loving mercy of Christ with others. (Contact
Rev. Michael Bedevian at 690-4673)
