A Church in Mission
Mission Opportunities through the Adult Ministries of Christ UMC.
Habitat for Humanity
In 2002, Christ UMC raised the roof on the first CUMC sponsored Habitat home on Beck Street in Bryan. In 2004
we erected our second home off Holleman Drive in College Station. In both cases, CUMC pooled its efforts in a
church wide project of fundraising and on-site construction to build these two homes. Our participation helps
families experience the rewards and joys of home ownership that would otherwise not be possible.
Summer Lunches at Southgate
This church-wide program is organized by the Helping Hands team. Numerous Sunday school classes and fellowship
groups help provide daily lunches to the children of the Southgate Village Apartment complex in College
Station. The goal of this program is to address the needs of students who cannot access the school lunch
program during the summer months. We also hope to build relationships and friendship with the families of
Southgate Village. (Contact Bonnie Byrum at 764-8673)
Tree of Hope
Each Advent season, CUMC reaches out to the community in numerous ways. Locally, Christmas gifts are gathered
from the congregation and distributed to families in the Brazos Valley and specifically those who are
residents in the Southgate Village Apartment Complex in College Station. Last year, CUMC was able to reach
out to more than 250 children. (Contact Bonnie Byram at 764-8673)
KAIROS Prison Ministries
The mission of Kairos is to bring Christ’s love and forgiveness to all incarcerated individuals, their
families, and those who work with them, and to assist in the transition to becoming a productive citizen. Our
ministry includes opportunities such as working on an “inside” team or “outside” team, baking cookies,
writing letters, making placemats and mentoring once a month and in prayer. (Contact Buzz & Katy Pruitt at 693-3690)
First Sunday Share
Every first Sunday of the month, CUMC members return with grocery bags received the previous week. The bags
are full of non-perishable food items, which are given to the Brazos Valley Food Bank and distributed to
pantries across the Brazos Valley area. (Contact Sonia McDowell at 690-3709)
Medical Mission Trips
Every spring, Christ UMC joins with other churches in sending a medical mission team to Guatemala. The
Medical Mission team, made up of doctors, nurses, dentists, ministers and support personnel, are focused on
offering the gifts of mercy, healing and love to those otherwise unable to afford medical attention. One
doesn’t have to be a practicing medical professional to participate in this ministry. The only prerequisite
for participating with Faith in Practice is a desire to share the loving mercy of Christ with others. (Contact
Rev. Michael Bedevian at 690-4673)
