Project Hope Food Drop
Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, this project brings together the Brazos Valley Food Bank, Christ UMC Members and residents of a local mobile home part to help with basic needs. The Brazos Valley Food Bank, working in conjunction with Christ UMC, provide food to low-income mobile home park residents in College Station. Work involves helping distribute the food and at the same time, provides an opportunity for a Christian presence by Christ UMC Members. Many of the residents at this food drop location are in desperate need of food, so the delivery of perishable food items helps to ease that burden.
Crestview is a non-profit corporation with a membership of approximately 125 volunteers who have been dedicated to enhancing the lives of the residents of the Crestview Methodist Retirement Community since 1964. Christ UMC volunteers help with sing-alongs for the residents, sponsor and participate in Bingo, monthly birthday parties, develop relationships or donate funding to provide care for long-time residents who have outlived their resources.
Bridge Food Pantry
Every 2nd Thursday of the month, volunteers help at the pantry by greeting clients, helping with paperwork, sacking meat, bread and other items, playing with children, walking clients to their cars and praying with them. Join us at the new location, 408 E 28th St., Bryan, TX.
Serving at the pantry is a great way to connect with others attending Christ UMC as well as other churches. There is the opportunity to serve in various capacities as well. One can be directly hands-on and pray with the clients coming to receive food or one can serve by packaging food and getting to know those from our church and other churches. Hearing the stories from the clients and having the opportunity to pray with them is definitely an impact on our spiritual lives.
Meals on Wheels
Several Christ UMC Members have currently adopted a "route" for Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels volunteers, usually working in pairs, are provided a regular, weekly "route" for delivering meals. Volunteers are assigned a route and are then responsible for delivery of food on the specified dates and times as defined. The Meals on Wheels organization is very flexible with defining what days, what time, location and number of recipients a route might contain. Once defined, Meals on Wheels volunteers would be responsible for covering that route on a weekly basis.
Mobility Worldwide (formerly known as Personal Energy Transportation "PET") seeks to reflect the love of Jesus Christ by bringing the "gift of mobility and dignity" to those in developing countries who are unable to walk. The United Nations estimates that 22 million people worldwide have lost the use of their legs due to land mines, disease, accident or injury. Of these, 15 million are bedridden or use wheelchairs. Mobility Worldwide is one of 25 production and distribution centers throughout the U.S. that produces a rugged, sturdy hand cranked cart that provides mobility to those leg-handicapped individuals. Christ UMC supports Mobility Worldwide through financial donations. Members of our church can also volunteer their time and labor to fabricate and assemble the mobility units.
Art From The Heart
The Art from the Heart Ministry Group is composed of both professional and amateur artists who come together once a week (Thursdays from 1:00-3:00 pm) to use their art to the glory of God. They provide cards for the Connection Center and Prayer Room Ministries, decorate bags for the Walk to Emmaus, and special projects like the Medical Clinic, the Christ UMC Family Promise Room, and VBS. All mediums are welcome, from paint to marker and pencil. Feel free to drop in any Thursday. No sign-up is needed.
Pieced Prayers Quilt Ministry
The Pieced Prayers Quilt Ministry meets every Thursday at 10:00 am until around 3:30 pm. Everyone brings their sewing machine and lunch. They make quilts to donate to people in our church who are going through a rough time for whatever reason. Quilting experience is not necessary, the participants help each other to teach quilting. The quilt tops are machine pieced and one of the members machine quilts them. It is a great group of ladies and a wonderful opportunity for fellowship and representation of our church with love and compassion for others.
